Elgaloy Hard 100 is a chromium carbide hardfacing electrod that is highly resistant to abrasive wear, but produces a weld metal with limited impact strength. It is ideal for welding abrasion resistant coatings on equipment in mines and quarries. Wear resistance is good even at high temperatures. Surface cracking occurs normally, but can be reduced by raising the working temperature (preheating) to 250-450°C. Elgaloy Mix 18 (buffer l) is recommended when welding thick hardfacing layers or over 13% manganese steel to prevent cracking of the base material.
Elgaloy 100 hard welds are not machined but can be ground. Also available as gas-free Elgaloy Hard R 100 cored wire and low current, high yielding, coated, hollow, Elgaloy Tube 100 hard welding rods.
