SH-2

SH-2

SH-2 is a gas mixture of argon and 2% hydrogen, particularly suitable for welding applications where increased arc energy and improved mass transfer are required. The addition of hydrogen to argon stabilises the arc and raises the temperature of the welding process, allowing faster welding and a cleaner weld surface. SH-2 is particularly suitable for plasma welding, root protection and welding of thin austenitic stainless steels.

SH-2 is a mixed gas consisting of 98% argon and 2% hydrogen. It is a colourless, odourless, inert and suffocating gas that does not sustain combustion. Argon acts as an inert noble gas, while a small amount of hydrogen acts as an active component to increase arc energy and improve the mass transfer in welding. SH-2 is heavier than air and can accumulate in low-lying areas, so adequate ventilation is important when using the gas.
