SK-18

SK-18

SK-18 is a blend gas of argon and 18% carbon dioxide that provides strong penetration and a stable arc for MAG welding. The higher carbon dioxide content improves mass transfer and weld fusion control. At the same time, it increases the amount of spatter and surface oxides. SK-18 is particularly suitable for welding unalloyed and low alloy steels where effective melt control and good penetration of thin and medium gauge materials are required.

SK-18 is a mixed gas consisting of 82% argon and 18% carbon dioxide. It is a colourless, odourless, tasteless and non-toxic gas that does not sustain combustion. SK-18 is a suffocating gas and, being heavier than air, can accumulate in low-lying areas, so adequate ventilation is important when using the gas.
