Hockey and Business

BlogOctober 22, 2026

Tavarataksi Finland organized the Business Hockey Classic ice hockey tournament for its partners on October 16, 2026, and Woikoski was also invited to attend.

This year’s tournament was already the sixth of its kind—the first games were played in 2017—so it’s fair to call it a traditional event. This year, the event took place in Lahti at the Wemasto Arena, which also serves as the Pelicans’ home arena. In addition to the hockey games, the day features good food and socializing, as well as watching the evening’s league game together.

The games were played under senior rules: two 15-minute periods with a one-minute intermission. The participating teams included teams from Be Group, Woikoski, the Allstars—a team made up of players from several companies—and the host team, Tavarataksi, which has won every tournament so far.

The Woikoski team included 10 players from Woikoski, with Tommi Tuoriniemi joining them as the backup goalkeeper.

The Battle for Bronze

The first game was played against BeGroup. In the first period, Santeri Forstén scored against Woikoski, and the period ended in a 1–1 tie. It was a good starting point to head into the second period, but there was a slight slump, and BeGroup pulled ahead by two goals, winning the game 1–3.

The bronze medal game pitted Woikoski against the All Stars. Woikoski’s team pulled themselves together after losing the first game, and their play began to click. They headed into the intermission with a 2–0 lead in Woikoski’s favor. The goal scorers in the first period were Jani Pesonen and Ollimatti Kallio.

The team entered the second period with a comfortable lead, and fairly early in the period, Woikoski scored its third goal on a spectacular shot by Mika Montonen. The bronze medal game ended with a 3–0 victory for Woikoski, marking the team’s best-ever result in this tournament.

Together on and off the ice

Some members of the Woikoski team play on a recreational team every week, while others dug their skates out of storage for the first time in years. Everyone, however, participated with equal enthusiasm; for Woikoski, the tournament is a favorite and eagerly anticipated event.

In addition to playing, what matters most to Woikoski employees on tournament day is a sense of community and meeting partners—when you know each other on a personal level, collaboration is always easier. It’s also always nice for Woikoski employees to see colleagues from different offices, since our staff is spread across five different locations throughout Finland. The day was capped off with good food, a sauna, and an evening hockey game 😊.

Congratulations to the Woikoski bronze medal team!
